There is no title in BC — the ICBC registration (APV250) is the document, and it has to carry your name. What ICBC asks of a private seller it asks of you: plates off and kept, registration signed with its lower portion handed over, the Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T) completed on the driver's copy, and a stop at an Autoplan broker afterwards to cancel the insurance or shift it to the next car. Vancouver has a broker on nearly every commercial street.
The one wrinkle Vancouver gives us more than anywhere else is a car registered to someone who has moved away — a former roommate, a relative overseas, a partner who left the car behind in the lane. We cannot buy a car from someone who is not the registered owner; an Autoplan broker can explain what ICBC needs to transfer it first. Sort that before you book and the pickup itself is routine.
