A junk car is the one nobody wants to deal with. It hasn't moved in months, it takes up the parking stall or the side yard, and the strata, the landlord or the neighbours have started asking about it. You describe it once in the quote form, see an estimate straight away, and a recycling partner that serves your area collects it at no charge and pays you for it at pickup. Below: what the pickup needs from you, what counts as junk, and what to do when the car is not in your name.
Getting a Junk Car Out: What the Pickup Needs
Junk cars tend to sit somewhere awkward: a back lane, an underground parkade, a field behind the barn. The tow truck has to reach the car and load it, so it should roll freely on all four tires. Flat or seized wheels are common after a long sit — mention them in the quote, along with any tight access, so the right truck is sent the first time. Missing keys, a dead battery or an engine that won't turn over are fine as long as you say so up front.
If the car is in a parkade, a strata stall or on land you don't own, getting permission to remove it is your part of the job, so let the building manager or property owner know the pickup day. Take your licence plates off before the truck arrives and empty the glovebox, trunk and door pockets: nothing left inside comes back.
What Counts as Junk — and What We Accept
Running or not, almost any complete passenger vehicle qualifies: cars, pickups, SUVs, vans and minivans with a blown engine, a failed transmission, accident or flood damage, fire damage, rust-through, or an ICBC write-off.
- Rebuilt, Salvage or Non-Repairable status is accepted when you hold the ownership documents.
- A partly stripped car is still worth a quote, but the price depends on what is left — tell us if the engine, transmission, catalytic converter or wheels are gone.
- Equipment that isn't a passenger vehicle, or anything heavier than a one-ton truck, goes through the callback option so we can arrange a truck that can take it.
- Personal belongings, garbage or hazardous material beyond the car's own fluids need to come out before pickup.
Junk Cars That Aren't in Your Name
Only the registered owner, or someone legally authorised to act for them, can sell a vehicle, and the person handing it over shows photo ID and proof of ownership at the pickup. That rules out a car a departing tenant left in your lane: if it belongs to someone else, only the registered owner can sell it, and an Autoplan broker can explain the transfer.
The common family cases do have a fix. A lost registration, or one still in a relative's name, goes through an Autoplan broker first; once the registration is in your name, the pickup is routine. For an estate car, the executor or administrator can sell it with the estate documents, the registration and their photo ID. If a lien is still registered against the car, it has to be cleared first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Our service is free of charge and the towing is included — there is no pickup fee and nothing is deducted for the tow. Your quote is an estimate based on what you tell us; the recycling partner confirms the final amount when it inspects the car, and you can still say no.
Yes, as long as you tell us in the quote. The car needs to roll on all four wheels to be loaded safely, so flat tires or a seized wheel change which truck comes. Missing keys are fine once disclosed.
The registered owner, or someone they authorise, needs to sign the registration and the Transfer/Tax Form and receive the payment, so yes — or someone you trust with the signed paperwork and access to the car. Tell us who will meet the driver when you book.
Not directly — only the registered owner or someone legally authorised can sell it. A lost registration or one in a relative's name goes through an Autoplan broker first, and an executor can sell an estate car with the estate documents and the registration.
